JOIN US
Love to sing? Looking for a friendly, welcoming choir that also enjoys putting on great performances? We’d be delighted to have you. Our community choir is open to all voices — no auditions and no requirement to read music. If you enjoy singing and want to be part of something uplifting, you’re already halfway there.
HOW TO JOIN
Joining is simple. Just get in touch via joinus@fishpondchoir.com to let us know you’re interested in giving it a try or that you want to come along to a rehearsal. We welcome new members, and you’re free to come to three sessions before deciding to join.
The best times of year to join us are between January and March and between June and September when we are starting to learn new repertoire. But we are always open to you joining us at other points in the year, so just drop us an email and we can talk about when would be the best time for you to come along.
What to Expect
We rehearse every Monday from 7.30pm until 9.30pm. We’re a performance-focused choir, but we keep things relaxed, encouraging, and fun at, the same time as working hard on our pieces and technique. Our rehearsals blend learning, laughter, and the joy of singing together.
Our Rehearsal Venue
We meet at The New Bath Hotel in Matlock Bath. It is an accessible, bright, warm rehearsal space, complete with a friendly bar area where people can chat before and after singing.
The New Bath Hotel is on the A6 on the edge of Matlock Bath. There is ample parking and there are good bus links. The train station is a 15 minute walk away. Our members come from all over Derbyshire and often car share.
Getting Started
Your first rehearsal is all about settling in. We’ll introduce you to your section (don’t worry if you’re not sure, we can help you find out if you are a soprano, alto, tenor or bass), provide a guest music folder and help you ease into the singing. New members often find they pick things up very quickly.
What to Bring
For your first session just bring yourself, a bottle of water, and a willingness to have a go. We provide everything else — music, guidance, and plenty of encouragement. If you join, you’ll need to be able to print the music from the members’ area of our website for your own folder or download it onto a tablet, and bring a pencil and a eraser or stylus to rehearsals.
How Much Does It Cost?
We keep our member subscription as low as possible to make singing accessible to everyone.
It is currently £15.00 a month, payable via standing order.
For members aged under 25 there is no subscription fee.
We can’t wait to hear from you!
