About the Choir

Formed in 2001, the Fishpond Choir is a mixed voice community choir with over 60 members, based in Matlock Bath, Derbyshire. We have a vibrant and versatile body of members who enjoy performing a rich and diverse repertoire of wonderful choral music from across the world.

From classical to film music, jazz to wassail carols, world culture to opera, the variety of what we sing and exploration of the most inspiring music from across the world and different cultures is very much our passion.

Many of our concerts have a theme, but within that we might include pieces from ancient to contemporary and from composers as diverse as Thomas Tallis to Christopher Tin, Sarah Quartel to Tchaikovsky, Eric Whitacre to Kodaly, or C. V. Stanford to Henry Mancini.

We are a performing choir and this shared focus is an important part of our energy and focus. We perform in beautiful venues great and small in Derbyshire and further afield. Many of the concerts we give also support local charities, and we are proud to be able to make significant donations towards their work.

As an adult community choir, our strength lies in having a healthy mix of members at both ends of the experience spectrum and who enjoy helping one another. Whether you are completely new to singing and don’t yet read music, or whether you are an established musician with extensive instrumental or choral experience, we provide new opportunities for musical development in a supportive and exciting way.

We are a welcoming and friendly choir, where people quickly develop friendships and experience the unparalleled joy of singing and striving together to achieve high quality performances. Our members are a wonderfully vibrant mix of people of all different experience levels, ages, backgrounds and interests. Of course, the love of music and developing our voices is shared by everyone!
